Post reading reactions

I was also quite surprised with the amount of student success reported. I would have thought general Ed students would not be as motivated out of the classroom when they aren't motivated in the classroom.

The amount of student interaction and participation, However, it does not surprise me as students are able to think about their comments prior to submission. Additionally, if a peer doesn't agree with a comment, their facial expressions do not show, thus the submitter doesn't perceive the response as rejection, but a difference of opinions.

  1. So that poses the question from Prof. Siko, of all the courses available, and the freedom from peer rejection would you have taken classes in hs? I can say that I would have, but computers weren't even in schools in the mid 70's.

  2. Hi Katie, Yes I was surprised at the amount of success in student performance in online classes , and yes, the shy kids don't have to worry about feeling insecure about others agreeing with their thoughts. But I suppose all of it depends on the skill of the teacher.

  3. I was also pleasantly surprised about the amount of teacher interaction and creativity that is used with online learning. I will be honest, I was totally against online learning before this assignment, but perhaps it can work effectively.

  4. Katie, student interaction is an interesting thing. Seeing how your classmates respond to you or fearing how they will respond to you can be extremely limiting. Without that peer pressure I imagine teachers see a completely different side of some students than they would in a live classroom.
